Who we help
Helping Feed...
HeRO currently raises funds and awareness in 3 ways:
- Direct donations
- The annual HeRO Charity Golf Tournament
- The annual Muscle Car 1000
Funds raised help buy and ship commodities, usually donated by U.S. or Canadian Companies, to school children in Honduras, refugees in Africa, hurricane victims in the Dominican Republic-wherever we can join with compassionate people to build better lives.
Efficiency and Performance
This is a great opportunity to maximize your giving. Ninety-five percent of every dollar donated to HeRO goes to directly to aid children and their families, not administrative and fundraising costs. We are careful to ensure supplies are safely delivered and put in the hands of those that need them most. Through our network, we can send $62 worth of much-needed supplies for every dollar given.
Hope for the Future
Thanks to emergency relief and development programs, world hunger is on the decline: the number of people going hungry in developing nations has been reduced from more than one in three in the early 1970s to one in five in the early 90s. However, 24,000 people still die every day. This is not acceptable. Ending hunger and poverty depends on choices individuals make. We could provide basic nutrition and health care for all people in developing countries by spending $13 billion more each year - that's $4 billion less than what Americans and Europeans spend on pet food.
Experts estimate that the world's population will stabilize at around 11.5 billion people towards the year 2150. Since food production is adjusted to affordable demand, we want to make sure that the most vulnerable have access to an adequate food supply. You can help by raising awareness of the plight and response needed by donating now.
Fast Facts
Sufficient food is available to feed the world's population. The cause of most hunger stems from disruption in a population's food distribution. People may lack food due to natural disaster, poverty, war, or the deliberate withholding of food to certain populations as a weapon or political tool. They also lack nutritional education.
