Day One – October 7, 2007
The Third Annual Muscle Car 1000 was held October 7th to October 11th 2007. Thirty-five teams gathered at the world famous Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, CA for the start of the event. As the teams arrived, the cars were displayed in front of the hotel for the public to enjoy.

The cocktail reception was held “al fresco” under the giant redwood trees
near the hotel entrance. An hour later, the teams were invited into the “Coronation Room” where President Reagan hosted Russian President Gorbachev 25 years earlier. As always, the opening night Gala was filled with laughter as the teams were introduced. Each new team was given a pair of white Muscle Car 1000 jackets, while returning teams were given Muscle Car 1000 black leather “varsity” jackets.

Day Two – October 8, 2007
Day 2 began with a drivers meeting followed by a police escort to the aircraft carrier, the USS Midway. As Admiral Mac McLaughlin gave the participants a private tour of the ship, the cars were craned onto the flight deck. After a private luncheon featuring a speech from Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Tibor Rubin, we broke all the rules by staging a drag race on the flight deck of the USS Midway.

It was carried live on Fox news, and proved to be amazing! After a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, we headed up the coast to the St. Regis resort in Dana Point. That evening, the participants enjoyed a five-course gourmet meal with wine pairings on the Pacific Lawn.

 |
Day Three – October 9, 2007
Day 3 opened with a thrilling drive through the local mountains to the Palm Springs Air Museum. We enjoyed a private tour followed by a gourmet luncheon under the wings of a B-17 bomber. After lunch, we headed to the J. W. Marriott Desert Springs Resort. In an effort to spice things up, we took several small boats across the lake and invited everyone to enjoy a Tepan dinner.

As the night progressed, the guests enjoyed flying food and Saki Bombs. As things really heated up, we brought out the best karaoke team in the desert. By midnight, everyone was singing, dancing and laughing hysterically!

Day Four – October 10, 2007
Day 4 started off with a spirited back-country drive to California Speedway in Fontana. Drag racing was again on tap, and no one wasted any time. The cars lined up, the “Christmas Tree” signaled GO, and every participant enjoyed the thrill ¼ mile at a time. Three hours later, Jonathan Michaels and his 1967 Mustang “Eleanor” came out on top by winning the last race of the day with an ET of 10.753 seconds at 118 mph!

After lunch and racing, the participants jumped in their cars and headed up the mountain to the Lake Arrowhead Resort. That evening, we enjoyed another multi-course wine maker’s dinner while enjoying the mountain air and stunning views of Lake Arrowhead.

 |
Day Five – October 11, 2007
Day 5 included a high speed drive along one of the most beautiful roads in Southern California. A line of 35 muscle cars played for two hours in the hills of the Angeles Crest National Forest. With news helicopters flying above, everyone came off the mountain and headed to Spago’s in Beverly Hills. After lunch, the teams caravanned to the Beverly Hills Hotel.

After checking-in and freshening-up, everyone gathered in the parking area for the short drive to Mecca … that magical wonderland known as the Playboy Mansion. The cars arrived within a few minutes, and drove up the driveway with road signs reading “Playmates at Play.” After displaying their cars on the lawn, the teams gathered for the Third Annual Muscle Car 1000 awards banquet. Frank and Lupe Chirat took home Best of Show honors with their flawless 1968 Shelby GT 500, and Scott and Pam Cawley won the Peoples Choice Award with their 1965 Pontiac GTO.
